Small communities and townships all across America are under fire from huge corporations and investment firms competing for government subsidies. They prey on township government by taking advantage of weak zoning laws and regulations. They force communities into servitude by using their lack of laws against them. Union township residents have first hand experience at having to defend themselves without the help of the current Trustee. We need a Trustee we can trust. We need a Trustee that can't be bought. We need zoning laws and rules that put the people of the township in the driver's seat. All commercial and agricultural businesses are encouraged and welcome to apply and can expect to be justly and fairly considered, but make no mistake about it, our residents and way of life come first. We are the fastest growing township in Champaign County because we are a great people. People want to move here to spend the rest of their lives. Let's make sure it stays that way.
The success or failure of any business or office depends on good daily decisions. I have grown my companies, Lincoln Professional Services and Rittenhouse Rentals daily for 10,214 days, over 27 years. The success we have achieved has allowed us not only to prosper, but give back to our community. We provide jobs for 8 employees and countless government employees, since we also pay our taxes. My wife, secretary and childhood sweetheart of 42 years, Phyllis is right by my side. We are seasoned veterans in the business and government worlds. I have for years helped develop utility policy for the City of Urbana. I am a founding member of the Freedom Grove World Trade Center Memorial Committee. I currently lecture on Energy Policy in Ohio, most recently in July and August before the Ohio Senate Energy Committee. I have held positions of fidiciary responsibility and leadership throughout our community civic clubs. I am a graduate of Leadership Champaign. I believe in God and serve my church.
Home-based business is the future of Union Township. I will encourage and promote Small Business to grow. Many types of technology businesses can prosper in our midst. We have the infrastructure in place now to support advanced electronics. We want more tradesmen and professionals of all types to consider Union Twp. as a place for a home and a home business. We already possess a strong population of independent thinkers with a good farm work ethic. We have good roads and easy access to Columbus, Dayton and Springfield. We have room in our farming community for controlled residential growth, thereby permanently increasing Twp. income. Families will always be welcome in Union Township. Come Grow With Us!
I would encourage the use of technology to keep Union Twp. residents informed about their local government. I believe that transparency is important in today's society. Our current Trustees utilize pencil and paper to record meetings and minutes. I believe that every meeting should be recorded for broadcast. The good. The bad.The ugly. All of it. I have been to many meetings where we had to rely on someone's memory or opinion as to what was said and agreed upon. We had important zoning records "disappear" during my opponent's term. This type of sloppy management will cease in my first term. Professional discourse will replace the use of bullying and intimidation tactics to the Boards of Zoning and the Board of Zoning Appeals. My family will not be put on the boards I control. I will have nothing to hide. Our current trustee voted to over-tax our residents, then when it was found out, instead of returning the money, spent it.
Our residents deserve accountability. Our residents deserve good laws that protect them from predators without and within. Our residents deserve to be able to trust their government. Our residents deserve transparency from our government officials, or we must replace them. I promise complete openness. I vow to conduct the affairs of my township with vision for the future. I acknowledge it will take time. It is my goal to see Union Township prosper. I promise to do my best before God and Man.
